We bury our dead. We burn the rest.
Not always. And those they could find to bury only had makeshift, and currently tilted crosses in the yard. But they were down. And they were gonna stay down. That’s what mattered. Not like Shane, not like Amy, no. These dead were gonna stay that way.
Rick’s eyes flick to the walkway, still expecting to see her there, torn between hope and dread that she’d be there. I couldn’t make the pieces fit. I tried.
A deep breath. Can’t lose himself now. He’d promised Carl, promised everyone. He wasn’t their Governor, but by god he still owed it to them to try. Keep them safe and alive for as long as he could. It wasn’t a perfect promise, but it was the best he could make.
